Glossary
Every term defined anywhere in the series, in one alphabetical list. Slang dates quickly; each entry links to the article where it is used in context.
- 764
- The best known of several online networks that coerce children into self-harm and abuse for status. Classed by the FBI as violent extremists.
- Age assurance
- Any method a service uses to establish how old a user is, from asking to checking documents.
- Age check
- Roblox's requirement, since January 2026, to prove age by ID or a facial scan before using chat.
- Age inference
- Estimating a user's age from how their account behaves, without asking them for anything.
- Avatar
- A player's character. How it is dressed signals status and group membership.
- Bacon
- A player using the free default avatar. By extension, a new or non-paying player.
- Beaming
- Hijacking an account and stealing its valuables. A "beamer" does it; a victim "got beamed".
- CNP
- Copy and paste. A mass-produced avatar style, and the people who wear it.
- Condo game
- A user-made game built for sexual role-play. Banned, and constantly re-uploaded.
- Crew
- A group functioning as a gang within a game, usually with a Discord server.
- Crew, ro-gang
- An organised group of players styled as a gang, built on a Roblox group and a Discord server.
- Cross-trade
- A trade across two games, or for Robux or money. Against the rules and unenforceable.
- Cross-trading
- Trading across different games or for outside payment. Against the rules, and the usual setting for scams.
- Cutsign
- A member's name or symbol that a victim is made to cut or write on their own body and photograph.
- CyberTip
- A report of suspected child exploitation filed with the US National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. US companies must file one when they find abuse material.
- Deplatforming
- Removing a person or group from a service so that they lose their audience there.
- DevEx
- Developer Exchange, Roblox's official programme for turning earned Robux into real money.
- Direct message
- A private conversation between two people on Discord, outside any server. Usually shortened to DM.
- Discord
- A separate chat app where most Roblox communities actually organise.
- Dox
- To publish someone's real identity or address without consent.
- Doxxing
- Publishing someone's real name, address or other private details in order to threaten them.
- Dupe
- Duplication. The claimed ability to copy an item, used as bait.
- Experience
- Roblox's official word for a single game on the platform. Players just say "game".
- Expose
- To publish private messages or embarrassing material about someone, usually as a video.
- Facial age estimation
- Software that guesses a person's age from a picture or video of their face. It estimates an age; it does not identify the person.
- Fail trade
- Excuses that the trade "glitched", used to explain why the victim must send again or go first.
- Family Center
- Discord's tool for linking a parent's account to a teenager's. Shows contacts and servers, not message contents.
- Flex
- To show off wealth, usually through avatar items.
- Friend or connection
- A player you have added. Friends can see when you are online and join you.
- Grooming
- An adult building a child's trust in order to abuse or exploit them.
- Group or community
- A club of players with a page, ranks and a shared name tag.
- Headless
- The Headless Horseman bundle, or anyone wearing it.
- HR
- High rank. A senior member with power to promote and remove others.
- Infostealer
- A program that copies saved passwords, login sessions and wallet files from a computer and sends them to an attacker.
- Invite link
- A web link that lets anyone who has it join a Discord server.
- Invite-only
- A server that can be joined only with a link from an existing member.
- Korblox
- The Korblox Deathspeaker bundle, in practice its bone leg.
- Leak
- To share anything from the crew's private server with outsiders.
- Limited
- An avatar item with capped supply that can be resold or traded between players.
- Lock
- Aim-assist cheating software. Also the standard accusation after losing.
- Middleman
- A third party who holds both sides of a trade. Legitimate ones exist; fake ones are a standard con.
- NCMEC
- The US National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, which receives platforms' reports of suspected child exploitation.
- Nitro
- Discord's paid subscription. The promise of a free one is the most common scam bait.
- Online Safety Act
- The UK law, passed in 2023, that requires online services to protect children from harmful content. Its age-check rules took effect in July 2025.
- Opp
- Opponent or enemy, borrowed from drill slang.
- Overpay
- Giving more value than you receive, deliberately or because you were misled.
- Phishing
- Tricking someone into entering their login details on a fake copy of a real site.
- Poisoned
- Describes an item known to have been stolen, which may be removed from whoever holds it.
- A paid monthly membership that includes Robux and the ability to trade items.
- Private server
- A copy of a game that only invited players can enter.
- Projected
- A limited whose listed price has been artificially inflated.
- QR login
- Discord's feature for logging in on a computer by scanning a code with the phone app. Abused to take over accounts.
- Quick switch
- Replacing an item in the trade window at the last moment.
- Radicalisation
- The process by which a person comes to accept violence as a legitimate way to pursue an idea.
- Raid
- To arrive in a rival's game server or Discord server in numbers, to disrupt it.
- RAP
- Recent average price, Roblox's own running average of what a limited has sold for.
- Robux
- Roblox's currency, bought with real money.
- Rollback
- Roblox's one-time restoration of items stolen from a compromised account.
- Server
- A group space on Discord with its own channels, rules and moderators. Not a computer: the word is Discord's name for a community.
- Sextortion
- Blackmail using a sexual image, typically to obtain more images or money.
- Slender
- A tall, thin avatar style, and the stereotype attached to it.
- Star
- A content creator officially recognised by a game's developers.
- Stomp
- To finish off a downed player. The defining act of hood games.
- Swatting
- Making a false emergency call to send armed police to someone's home. A serious crime.
- Tag
- The crew name displayed above a member's avatar.
- Teen Safety Assist
- Discord's default protections for teenage accounts: warnings on first messages from strangers and blurred sensitive images.
- Teen-by-default
- Discord's policy of giving every account teenage protections unless the owner is confirmed to be an adult.
- The com
- Short for "the community": the wider online scene of hackers, fraudsters and coercion groups that 764 belongs to.
- Token
- The secret code a device holds that keeps it logged in to an account. Whoever has a copy is logged in too.
- Trust trade
- Any trade where one side gives first and trusts the other to follow. Always a scam.
- Tryout
- An entry test, usually a set of judged one-on-one fights.
- Two-step verification
- A second proof of identity at login, usually a code from an app. Often written 2FA. It does not protect a login that is already open.
- Username, display name and user ID
- Three different things. The display name can be changed freely, the username occasionally, the numeric user ID never. Only the ID reliably identifies an account.
- Value list
- A fan-made ranking of what items are worth, used to judge trades.
- Wallet drainer
- A fake site that, once a cryptocurrency wallet is connected to it, transfers out everything the wallet holds.
- War clan
- The older, military-themed form of the same structure.
